The Brief

My Clients’ Brief for their small office interior design was to fit a waiting area, meeting room, 4 small offices, a storage/printer area & lunch area in their new 88 square metre retail space. It was a tight squeeze, while maintaining wheelchair & accessibility in all the areas. The central corridor with office on both sides has full height glazing with sliding doors to make the most of the limited space, and feature film strips for privacy.

The Design

We transformed this space from a drab empty office into a welcoming space for my clients to come into work every day, as well as for visitors. The reception area doubles as a lounge that staff can take advantage of when there are no visitors. The ‘before & after’ images below show the empty tenancy compared with the new inviting reception rendered image.

The finishes selected are warm & textural layers, concrete look vinyl flooring, industrial style artisan paint to the lounge area wall, with feature lighting and a area rug to define the lounge space. Furniture was selected for casual appeal, as well as compact size and functionality; lightweight ottomans with handles from Freedom that can be moved to offices for extra visitor seating; a heavy terrazzo coffee table that will stand the test of time in a reception area.

The advantage of Concept Design is that we can explore different options for the design, and visualise how it will look if feature items in the office interior design are omitted due to budget, before building actually starts. Below the render on left excludes feature wall panelling, a plywood ceiling & a privacy divider for the part-time receptionist; while the render on the right includes them all.

The Final Space

Compare the finished office design photos below with the previous rendered views; our client has opted to install some of the items like the blue screen, artwork and the planter at their own pace, while the existing ceiling has been maintained as a budgeting measure.
