This tiny single storey Art Deco home in Melbourne was in the midst of a major renovation and extension when Lisa Elliott was called in to assist the owners in realising their dream home. The home was originally built for a WWII war veteran, and currently undergoing extensive structural renovations to suit a young family. The design brief was to design and document a light, bright family bathroom & laundry. This home owner also needed advise on colour & finishes for a new kitchen & interior finishes for the rest of the home. Completing an initial consultation and subsequent moodboard assisted in pin-pointing the home owner’s style and mood for the spaces.
The bathroom in particular was tiny & poorly planned, with fixtures and surfaces in need of replacement. The existing windows & mirror were replaced with a high-level horizontal window to accomodate a well-planned vanity layout with more storage and a larger vanity mirror.
At the conceptual stage, options sketch planned to explored alternative layouts for the bathroom and laundry space to get the most out of the available area. The option below was one of the early layouts that was disguarded in favour of a bathroom plan that highlighted the freestanding style corner bath & antique mirror above. The bathroom was enlarged; storage space in the kitchen was removed to create a walk-in shower alcove, with mosaic penny-round wall tiles.
The hand drawn views of the final bathroom design with the selected finishes illustrate the overall design to the client. A custom made vanity and full height storage is one of the key features of creating a design that works for such a small bathroom – no space is wasted in this design!
The home owners requested assistance with selection of interior finishes for the home & the kitchen; the rendered views below were invaluable tools for them be confident that they loved the design.
