Incorporating wellness into your home is essential for a balanced and healthy lifestyle, especially as our homes become spaces where we not only live but also rejuvenate. For homeowners looking to design luxury residences in Melbourne, working with one of the most experienced interior designers Melbourne has to offer can help you create a space that supports your unique daily rituals and promotes overall wellbeing.

I’m guessing you’ve never considered Briefing Your Interior Designer on your morning and evening routines and rituals? “How are your personal routines & rituals relevant to the design of your home?”, I hear you ask yourself.

These moments in the day help us to maintain a rhythm and balance; they may seem trivial at first glance, but allowing for the time and space to create these moments is important for our wellbeing, to help us get going in the morning, and then wind down in the evening. We all know, it’s hard enough to stick to a routine, the last thing you need is to be fighting against the physical space to achieve your goals.

Here’s how I’ve used my skills as an Interior Designer to shape my home to support my everyday wellness routines, from meditation to fitness & relaxation. If you aspire to have a morning or evening routine that supports you every day, then having spaces designed with your routines in mind will help you on the way. I view them as Rituals, to give them the importance the deserve.

With well-planned lighting, ergonomic furniture and dedicated storage, and Your Interior Designer can transform a simple corner of your home into a personal retreat for reflection and creativity.

Simple Tips for Yoga and Meditation at Home right now

Here’s a couple of Interior Design tips you can implement today to enhance your yoga and meditation rituals at home:

1. Choose a Quiet, Secluded Space

For my morning yoga and mediation ritual, I’ve picked an area in my home that’s quiet and undisturbed, especially during my practice time. This is a room that I can close off to avoid distractions from pets or other household members. For me, its a space no one enters at 6am (I’m the only ‘morning person’ in my family), allowing for complete focus and relaxation.

One of my favourite places is yoga by the pool on a warm summer morning in Melbourne; in and surrounded by nature. It’s something I look forward to all winter.

2. Create a Relaxing Atmosphere

I make sure the space feels calm and inviting. Clear enough room for your yoga mat and ensure there’s enough space for stretching out your arms and legs freely on either side. Lighting plays a huge role in setting the mood: switch off harsh overhead lights and use a table lamp, or if you have dimmable lights, turn them to their lowest setting. Add an aromatherapy oil diffuser for a soothing fragrance – I use an electric one for safety, which helps create a serene atmosphere for the senses.

3. Keep it Clean and Organised

Cleanliness is key, especially for floor exercises. A quick vacuum the night before can make all the difference (I love using my robot vacuum for this). There’s nothing worse than seeing dust bunnies while you’re lying off the floor trying to relax. Keep your yoga props handy with dedicated storage for your blocks, meditation cushion, pilates bands, or hand weights to avoid clutter, making it easier to enjoy your practice.

By incorporating these small design adjustments, you can instantly elevate your yoga or meditation routine, making your practice more focused and enjoyable.

4. Write your interior design Brief

A well-crafted brief is essential to ensure that both your Architect and Interior Designer can bring your vision to life seamlessly. So, how do you get started? Check out my blog post on How to Create a Great Brief for Your Interior Designer who Collaborates with Your Architect, and don’t forget to think about your daily rituals when writing your brief.

Why hire an Interior Designer in Melbourne for your Wellbeing-Focused Home?

Hiring a qualified Interior Designer in Melbourne allows you to design your home with intention. Designers can take the time to consider how your daily rituals – like mediation, exercise, and relaxation – can be supported by the environment around you. By collaborating early on with your Architect and Interior Designer, you can ensure that both the architecture and the interiors work together seamlessly to support your lifestyle and wellbeing.

Gather your Ideal Design Team Early

Building or renovating a luxury home requires more than just a good Architect. To ensure your home supports your daily rituals and lifestyle, it’s essential to bring in a highly skilled Interior Designer at the start of the process. Getting an Interior Designer onboard early ensures a more integrated design approach. You’ll benefit from a Peer Review where your designer will offer feedback on layouts, suggest furniture arrangements, assess flow, and provide advice on materials.

Supporting Architects by Focusing on the Interiors

When building or renovating a home, architects face increasingly complex challenges such as town planning regulations, environmental considerations, and compliance with ever-evolving building codes. By hiring an Interior Designer to handle the finer details of your interiors, you allow your architect to focus on the broader structural elements of your home. A dedicated designer can help alleviate some of that pressure, ensuring that your homes interiors are meticulously planned and beautifully executed.

So, why Hire an Interior Designer?

Many clients often overlook the value of hiring a professional interior designer, especially when embarking on high-end or complex builds. Some may believe that working solely with a builder and selecting finishes as they go will suffice. However, without a cohesive design vision, this often results in last-minute decisions, limited choices, and unforeseen costs due to changes or variations not accounted for by the builder.

Collaborating with a qualified interior designer from the start allows for strategic planning, ensuring that every aspect—layouts, finishes, and furnishings—are meticulously designed to align with both function and aesthetics. You’ll receive detailed drawings and material selections early on, allowing for competitive quoting and eliminating guesswork.

Beyond aesthetics, you require a highly trained, registered interior designer, particularly for complex luxury residential and commercial projects. This is not just about having a “good eye” for design; it’s about ensuring spaces meet regulatory standards, timelines, and a vision that enhances the overall architecture.

By working with a professional, you ensure a seamless process that saves both time and money while delivering a final product that matches your project goals.
